See and Touch the Vision
Purpose: Through this lesson, we are helping the children visualize. When God created the Earth, He envisioned how it would look and function. Today, the children will explore God’s vision by using their five senses. Like God, it is important that we know how to visualize. Visualization helps us see the possibilities.
You Will Need:
- A bible (child-friendly version)
- A table or bag (to have easy access to all items)
- A flashlight (to represent light)
- Dirt or rock (to represent the Earth)
- Water in a bowl (to represent the sea)
- Plant (to represent the vegetation)
- Other items as you see fit
Reading Reference: Genesis 1
Lesson Plan
- Activity: Choose two to three songs about creation and sing to and with your child. Click here for some ideas.
- Memory Phrase: God had a vision, and He has given you the ability to have one too.
- Read: Read Genesis 1 from a child-friendly version of the bible. As you read, allow your child to experience each piece of the vision. Let them splash the water in the bowl, smell the plants, touch the rocks, and feel the dirt between their fingers. Provide as many experiences as you can.
-
- Sample Dialogue. “And God said, let there be light.” Turn off all the light and turn on the flashlight and watch how their eyes follow the light.
- Round Two: Repeat the activity, memory phrase, and reading.
- Round Three: Repeat the activity, memory phrase, and reading, but this time, allow them to show each piece of the story using prompt questions, such as, “Can you show me the light? Can you show me the water?” Repeat as many times as you desire.
Teaching Prompt
You are your child’s first introduction to excellence—music, repetition, and playing work together to help them remember what you say. After you have reviewed the lesson, repeat the lesson as many times as you can throughout the week and month. When you can, invite older siblings, friends, and other children to join you for learn and play bible study lessons. Allow the children to move around and express themselves during the lesson. Later, listen to hear if they are making noises like singing or talking about what they learned with their toys or other people. For babies, watch how they react when you randomly play music again. Then, you will know that they are retaining the information.
