Mission Works Foundation
Welcome to the Brenda S. Wilson Mission Works Foundation (MWF), where we serve and receive a greater service.
From the outset of its mission work, CEO and Founder Jacqui Wilson emphasized the importance of children not only being served in a charitable capacity but also serving. As children serve, they start to see beyond their needs to recognize their ability to contribute, solidifying that they have a purpose. Purpose helps children focus, builds confidence, and gives life to their talents, gifts, abilities, and experiences.
Bags of Blessings
On our first mission, we partnered with Our Roots Kenya and Pink Elephant (now defunct) to deliver bags of blessings to the children of Nakuru, Kenya. We put a call out to our supporters asking for supplies to fill the bags for the orphans. Books, school supplies, novelties, and health supplies came in from around. The next year, we hosted another Bags of Blessings mission for children in the U.S. giving to various children in Tennessee, Mississippi, and Alabama. “Then the people rejoiced, for that they offered willingly, because with perfect heart they offered willingly to the Lord….” 1 Chronicles 29:9
Serving the Homeless
We have had the opportunity to serve the homeless and battered in few unique ways. For one mission project, we collected the most requested items for homeless men, clean socks. Then, we hosted a BBQ lunch for them. The children served. After the lunch service, our children had an opportunity to learn how the homeless survive on the street, reminding them that some ordinary household foods like peanut butter is used as the primary source of protein.
In another project, our children and family volunteers served at a shelter for battered women and children. The children had an opportunity to see first-hand how different life is for some families. The children were tasked with helping the kids in the shelter create vision boards, while our adult volunteers ministered to their mothers. We invited a job recruiter for the event, and mothers had an opportunity to interview for a job in a more comfortable setting. Afterward, we hosted a BBQ lunch for the ladies and their children, and everyone fellowshipped together. It matters to have a “normal” Saturday.
Our children and family volunteers especially enjoyed opportunities like singing at the women and battered children shelter during the Christmas holidays and giving out sweet treats and small gifts. The most recognizable need of those we have helped is to be recognized as human. And while we helped them, they reminded us of the work we still need to do.
Small Tokens
We have had a policy since our inception that we do not send money. Instead, we assess the need and determine how we can best help. Our children in Pakistan have certainly enjoyed these small tokens. Whether it was receiving hats and gloves for the cold weather to packets of coloring sheets to snacks, they have had a great appreciation for what we were able to do.
How Can You Help?
We want you and your children to become involved. Involvement often means effort versus financial assistance. We desire to work with families and individuals who connect with our mission work and desire to contribute using their talents, gifts, abilities, and experiences to help someone else, and we welcome project suggestions.
Brenda S. Wilson
The MWF is named in honor of Brenda Smith Wilson, the mother of CEO and Founder Jacqulyn “Jacqui” Wilson. Born to Henry and Eva (Crusoe) Smith, she has always had a heart for serving people and an infectious joy while she does it. As a mother of seven, grandmother to five, retired educator, and musician, she continuously finds ways to bless others. She believes in celebrating others, and that success at any level is still a success. “Give, and it shall be given unto you: good measure, pressed down and shaken together and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete, therewith it shall be measured to you again.” Luke 6:38 KJV
