Have you ever walked into a room, a meeting, a classroom, a business seminar, or even a church group, and felt every eye sizing you up?  Maybe you heard it out loud, or maybe it was just the looks: “You don’t belong here.” Those words, spoken or unspoken, can echo in our minds, making us question every step we take.

I know how that feels.  I’ve been the one who was doubted, overlooked, or quietly pushed to the margins.  My own journey with confidence began as a kid, when I overheard people I trusted talk about what I was not or what I did not look like, things that did not fit their idea of who belonged.  No one talked about how smart I was or how I contributed.  It was based purely on what I looked like.  But a level of confidence was there because I had an  encounter with God, a moment when He whispered to my heart, “If you don’t do it, who will?” That question became my anchor, reminding me of my unique purpose and my seat at the table.

But let’s be honest: no matter how much faith you have, doubts can creep in.  Especially in business or leadership, when you’re the “new one,” the “different one,” or the one who doesn’t fit the mold.  Maybe you’ve heard things like:

• “Are you sure you’re qualified for this?”
• “You don’t have the right background.”
• “No one here looks like you.”

These doubts are real, but they don’t get the final say.

The Truth About the Room

Here’s what I’ve learned: You belong at the table God has set for you.  Psalm 23:5 says, “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies…” God Himself invites you in, not just as a guest, but as someone with a rightful seat.  Your story, your perspective, your gifts, and your calling are needed in rooms where you might feel out of place.  When God opens a door, no one can shut it.
