You Were Meant to Be Great!
“You were never meant to be just good. You were meant to be great!” Recently, I shared this message on social media because we need reminders of what is inside us and what we can do. I inherently believe greatness is inside each of us, and if we are willing to work toward it, it will display itself. However, people often settle for “good enough” for various reasons, none which matter if you truly want greatness.
Why do I believe greatness is inside of you? First, God is greatness, and His breath of life lies within you. Thus, greatness is inside you. Second, you are here. Anything created or positioned has a purpose. What is your purpose? That is where you will see your greatness truly shine through. Third, we have a choice to live a life of greatness, no matter how humble our beginnings. Ask my mother, who gave birth to seven children- all of whom hold college degrees and some advanced degrees.
Some may say, “If it’s good, it’s good enough.” I may say yes to that if you are an overworked mother whose house is not perfectly clean after a long day of work or after running after a toddler all day. Yet, what would you choose if you had a choice between a good meal and a great one? What would you choose if you had a choice between a good hotel or a great hotel? What if you could choose between a good car and a great car? How would you choose between a good and great doctor or a good lawyer and a great lawyer? Undoubtedly, you will choose great every time unless you are a self-saboteur. You choose great because you love the experience. You choose great because you enjoy the quality. You choose great because it exceeds your expectations. Therefore, why would we not exude the same if we want this from other people and situations? Consider how you react when the experience or situation is less than stellar. We brag about great, not good enough. What you want from others, you must first apply to yourself.
Again, I know greatness is in all of us, but just because greatness is inside you and people believe in you and your abilities doesn’t automatically mean you are great. Being great is a choice, and you make that choice every day. I hope that you choose to be great! Don’t choose it because you expect something in return. Choose it because that is simply who you are. So, if you can upgrade your client or customer, give an employee a little extra comfort, or answer a quick off-the-menu question for someone who may not offer you an immediate benefit, why not? Even a smile or another small act that shows that you value them can make someone’s day greater! Go and be great! That is who you are!
