  1. Walk Away<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    People who verbally abuse or bully want an audience. If you leave, you take away their power. If no one listens, who are they talking to?<\/p>\n

    Activity:<\/em> Next time you hear verbal abuse or bullying, quietly remove yourself from the group. Notice how this changes the situation.<\/p>\n

    1. Speak the Truth<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Sometimes, people who bully twist the story or tell lies. If you know the truth and feel safe, share it.
      You can also speak privately with the person being discussed and encourage them. Remember, don\u2019t let fear keep you from standing up for what\u2019s right.<\/p>\n

      Activity:<\/em> Think of a time you could have spoken the truth. What would you have said? Write it down.<\/p>\n

      1. Don\u2019t Join In<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        Even if you\u2019re just listening and not talking, you\u2019re giving the bully what they want\u2014an audience. If you agree, laugh, or stay, you may be seen as part of the problem. If you disagree, walk away right away.<\/p>\n

        Activity:<\/em> Role-play in your mind or with a friend: If someone tries to pull you into verbal bullying, what could you say or do to avoid joining in?<\/p>\n

        1. Get Help or Be Help<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

          If the person being verbally abused or bullied is present, support them. Stand with them, or if there\u2019s no danger, help them leave the situation. If things are serious or you feel unsafe, get help from a trusted adult.<\/p>\n
