Key Areas of Development—What You’ll Support
Spiritual Foundations
- Vision and Purpose: Just as Jesus, at age twelve, was “about his Father’s business” (Luke 2:41–52), you are invited to discover and pursue God’s vision for your life—right now.
- Your Role: Our resources help you identify your gifts, strengthen your faith, and develop purpose-driven goals, so you can serve God and your community with confidence.
Academic and Life Skills
- Academic & Organizational Skills:
- Master reading, writing, math, and science with growing complexity
- Organize materials and schedules to manage multiple classes and teachers
- Develop effective study habits: note-taking, test prep, and regular review
- Practice critical thinking: analyze information, form opinions, and solve problems from multiple perspectives
- Life Skills & Personal Development:
- Communicate clearly and resolve conflicts
- Balance school, activities, and personal time (time management)
- Solve problems independently and collaboratively
- Use technology responsibly and safely (digital literacy)
- Build self-sufficiency: chores, simple meals, basic first aid
Social and Emotional Milestones (Ages 12–14)
- May repeat some “terrible twos” behaviors as independence grows
- Tries to establish autonomy
- Tends to gossip and talk with peers
- Adapts behavior to fit situations
- Exhibits “off-color” humor and silliness
- Has little impulse control at times
- Enjoys recreational activities and is energetic/enthusiastic
- Takes on more responsibilities at home and with homework
- Is socially expansive and aware; values close friendships (often same-gender)
- Is competitive and wants to excel
- Can show extremes of emotion
- Wants immediate gratification

Resources are based on established learning standards, with advanced options to help you know when you’re ready to level up. As a yearly member, you’ll always receive the latest updates. Need something specific? Submit a request and we’ll design a resource or provide a solution.
